Privacy
What this site records about you, in plain words.
Who is responsible
This website is run by Tim Jubinville in Montréal, Québec. For any question about this page or your information, write to hey@timj.me.
Visit counter
To see which pages get read, the site counts visits on its own server. No cookies, no third-party analytics service and no advertising.
- What is recorded: the page address, the date and time, a short code that stands in for the visitor, the visitor’s country, the type of device (phone, tablet or computer) and the name of the website that sent the visit, if any (for example “LinkedIn”, never the full address). The country is worked out by Cloudflare, the service that sits in front of this site, from your IP address; the address itself is not stored.
- How the code works: it is made from your IP address and browser details mixed with a secret key and the current week, then scrambled in a way that can’t be reversed. The IP address and browser details themselves are not stored, and the code changes every week, so a visit can’t be linked to you or followed across weeks.
- What is not recorded: your name, email, city, exact location or anything you type.
- Opting out: if your browser sends “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control, your visits are not counted at all.
Contact form
If you send me a message through the contact form, I receive what you type: your name, email address, the topic you choose (if any), your message, and the language of the page you used. Two things happen with it:
- It is emailed to me at hey@timj.me, through my web host’s mail server.
- A copy is saved in this website’s database, so a message isn’t lost if an email fails.
I use it only to answer you. I don’t add you to a mailing list, and I don’t sell or share it. I keep messages as long as the conversation is useful, and you can ask me to delete yours at any time. To limit spam, the form briefly remembers how many messages came from your connection, using a scrambled code rather than your IP address.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, I keep your email address, the language of the page you used, and the dates you signed up and confirmed. I send one email to confirm it is really you (nothing else is sent until you click the link). I use the address only to tell you about new articles; I don’t sell or share it. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask me to delete your address at any time. To limit abuse, the form counts signups per hour, without recording your IP address.
Cookies
Visitors get one small cookie, tj_lang, that remembers whether you prefer English or French (kept for a year, never used for tracking). A session cookie is also used only when I sign in to manage the site.
Other services
- Weather: the current Montréal weather on the Contact page comes from Open-Meteo.com (weather data under the CC BY 4.0 licence). My server asks for it about twice an hour; your browser never contacts Open-Meteo and nothing about you is sent.
- Videos: some project pages show a video from YouTube or Vimeo. Nothing is loaded from them until you press Play. Once you do, the video plays from their servers, which receive your IP address and may set their own cookies (YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode, Vimeo with “do not track” on), under Google’s or Vimeo’s privacy policy.
- Links to other sites: LinkedIn and Instagram are run by other companies with their own privacy policies. Nothing is shared with them unless you click through.
Your choices
You can ask me what I hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, by emailing hey@timj.me. Because visit counts use a scrambled weekly code, they can’t be tied back to one person.
Changes
If this page changes in a meaningful way, I’ll update the date below. Last updated: October 20, 2026.
